Meet Micaela

I KNOW WHAT IT FEELS LIKE TO STOP RECOGNISING YOURSELF

I’m Micaela Parker, a health and wellness life coach, a wife and a mum in a blended family with three boys.

I Know What It Feels Like to Stop Recognising Yourself

About seven years ago, my first husband passed away from cancer, which was life changing and incredibly hard. I was a working mum with two young boys, carrying deep grief while trying to hold everything together.

Not long afterwards, I met my now husband, Alex, and his son. Blending our families was special, but there was also a lot happening beneath the surface. I was grieving, navigating a new relationship, raising my boys and working. Then COVID arrived.

It honestly felt like a bit of a car crash.

Around the age of 38, I began experiencing symptoms that I now recognise as early perimenopause. I went from feeling highly functional, calm and capable to feeling like someone I didn’t recognise.

My moods were unpredictable, my brain felt foggy and the anger was one of the hardest parts.

I felt anxious and overwhelmed for no obvious reason. I experienced relentless itching, allergies, digestive problems, bloating, adult acne, dizzy spells, hot flushes and night sweats.

At the same time, I was gaining weight despite exercising five days a week. I wasn’t sleeping properly, and some afternoons I was so fatigued and sensory overloaded that I struggled to concentrate or hold a conversation at work.

I remember thinking:

“What is happening to me? This isn’t who I am.”

But the harder I pushed, the more it felt as though my body was fighting back.

I stopped focusing on eating less and exercising more and started learning what my body actually needed.

The Patterns Beneath the Burnout

Even as I made progress physically, I kept finding myself burnt out.

I hadn’t yet worked through the impact of past trauma or recognised the old safety systems I had created to help me cope. Patterns such as rushing, perfectionism, self-criticism and constantly pushing myself had become so familiar that I thought they were simply part of who I was.

I also began recognising beliefs I had formed when I was younger, beliefs I had carried as though they were true, even though they never were.

These beliefs and safety patterns showed up in my life as self-sabotage, a constant rushing mentality, perfectionism, harsh self-criticism and repeated cycles of burnout. They may once have helped me feel safe, capable or in control, but they were no longer serving the woman I was becoming.

Rather than criticising myself for these patterns, I began approaching them with curiosity and compassion. I started learning how to identify what was happening beneath my behaviour, support my nervous system and create a greater sense of safety within myself.

And slowly, I started feeling like the new version of myself.

I introduced methods to rewire my identity, beliefs and habits. I also began reconnecting with my inner spirit and intuition, using that connection to help ground myself and create a greater sense of inner peace.

This is still a journey for me. I don’t believe we reach a point where we are completely finished or never experience stress again. But I have made incredible progress from where I started.

I understand myself more deeply. I recognise my patterns sooner. I’m learning to slow down, listen to my body and respond to myself with greater compassion instead of automatically pushing harder.

Today, I combine evidence-informed health and behaviour-change coaching with intuitive, spiritually grounded support to help women understand themselves more deeply.

Together, we look beyond individual symptoms to explore the connections between hormonal changes, nutrition, sleep, movement, stress, nervous-system health, relationships, beliefs and protective patterns such as rushing, perfectionism and people-pleasing.

Where it feels aligned, spiritual intuition can also support deeper self-awareness and change. Optional Reiki sessions will be introduced soon.

Your body isn't broken. You may simply need to start working with it differently.

Because perimenopause, menopause, burnout or a difficult season of life doesn’t have to mean losing yourself.

Sometimes, it can become the point where you finally learn to care for, trust and reconnect with the woman you’re becoming.
